QUEST – Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Your responsibilities

You will join the Geodetic Metrology Group (GM) within the Beams Department (BE) provides metrology and alignment for components installed in the accelerators, their beam transfer lines and the physics experiments throughout the CERN complex. It also handles the geodetic aspects of the CERN reference systems.

The implementation, integration and exploitation of various adjustment systems for accelerator components provides challenges for the survey experts and mechanical design teams at CERN. Each of these adjustment systems needs to fulfil integration and functional requirements resulting in multiple designs and representing a high total cost spent on repeated developments and numerous types of equipment to be manufactured. To help overcome this challenges, a standardized approach, named Universal Adjustment Platform (UAP) was developed.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for:

optimizing the design and the standardization of the UAP sub-components;
developing the UAP into an open-hardware.

Experience in applying numerical modelling in solid mechanics;
Experience in design and analysis of mechanical structures (static, dynamic, modal, shock, vibration);
Knowledge of the production of 2D drawings and 3D models;
Achieving results: delivering high quality work on time and fulfilling expectations;
Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships; working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities;
