Stage 1: each team will be asked to develop a solution to our ‘virtual challenge’.
The challenge for 2025 is in collaboration with Fersa Bearings, to design an in-line 100% automatic station to measure the tapered race of tapered roller bearing inner rings.
Stage 2: the top three teams from the “virtual challenge” will be invited to attend the University of Zaragoza in Spain to present and have the chance to develop a solution. A bursary will be awarded to contribute towards travel, accommodation and subsistence. Students from the top three teams will also be awarded complimentary access to our 25th International Conference and Exhibition.
Stage 3: Three highest ranked teams will be invited to 2025 International Conference and Exhibition in Zaragoza, Spain after which the winning team will visit the FERSA production plant to present their final winning solution.

We initially had 7 teams comprising of 21 students who participated in the virtual challenge.
All teams were given names relating to the geography of Spain. We had pitch presentations from all 7 teams.

The prototypes were designed and created and after much deliberations, we are thrilled to announce the winning team in 1st place was awarded to: Team 3 Seville
