Letter of euspen Past President
July 2011

Dear euspen Colleagues,

As you set off for your summer vacations, I would like to bid you farewell with a final update.

It is with great pleasure I look back to euspen’s 11th International Conference, held in Como in May. My final event as President proved to be an excellent meeting providing a fabulous combination of fantastic science, excellent networking, stunning sunshine and of course much fun. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the companies and delegates who attended and contributed to make this conference such a major success.

The meeting played host to the second euspen International football match. Whilst the International Allstars brought much experience to the field, youth won the day with the Italian home team delivering a resounding win at 6:2, all in the beautiful setting of the Villla Erba gardens. A photo gallery of the event, including highlights of the football, is now available.

Electronic proceedings of the meeting have also now been published for members to access and we hope you will appreciate the more reader friendly layout.

Looking back to the last 2 years, I am very proud of all that we have achieved with the enthusiastic support of euspen members and friends. New events have been created such as the sell-out Manufacturing Technologies for Large Science Projects event in Paris or the first euspen International Student Challenge in Jena 2010. This new tradition will continue later this month in Cambridge (euspen Challenge 2011). The special interest groups have continued to thrive providing many useful outputs. In February this year we also saw our first formal joint meeting of the Structured and Freeform Surface Group held in Charlotte, Carolina. For a full list of our recent events please see the euspen events page.

Over these two years euspen has also successfully lead the European Co-Nanomet project (publications) for which I have to give special thanks to our CEO, dr Theresa Burke who contributed so much to this project.

euspen is today a thriving, pace-setting organisation. We have tried to capture some of this energy in our updated marketing brochure and euspen film.

In Como, it was my great pleasure to hand over Presidency to Paul Shore. Paul will be ably served on euspen executive board by new Vice President Wolfgang Knapp. I shall also continue to provide my support on this board as past president. The fourth board member remains of course our outstanding CEO, Dr Theresa Burke.

I hope you will join me in wishing Paul every success in his new role. I am sure he will have some exciting updates for you on your return after the summer.

In the mean time I wish you continued success and send heartfelt thanks for your friendship and support through my two years as President. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have.

With all best regards,

Henny
