Letter of the President
March 2010
Dear euspen Colleagues,
With spring rapidly approaching, it is my pleasure to update you on a number of exciting society activities and developments in progress as well as some important opportunities which may be of interest to you:
- With over 300 papers received for euspen's 10th International Conference, Delft 2010 and an excellent programme planned, I am very much looking forward to meeting with you there. Registration is now open with reduced fees available for members until 1st April. This year the meeting will open with a barbeque at the beautiful Delft Botanical Gardens. As hotel accomodation is limited within Delft, coach transport will also be provided at the conference for delegates choosing to stay nearby in the Hague.
- We understand that maximising your team's skills and expertise is always a priority. This year we have an outstanding tutorial programme on offer in Delft. Why not take a look at the 2010 Tutorial Brochure.
- The industrial exhibition at Delft will profile many world leading companies. As only 3 booths now remain, please hurry and reserve your booth if you would like to join these exhibitors.
- euspen's Special Interest Group meeting on Structured and Freeform Surfaces, held in Feb, was a resounding success with over 60 international delegates attending a very snowy Aachen. For those of you unable to attend, presentations are now available online (passwd: sfs aachen). We are very grateful to the Frauhofer IPT for hosting us so well at the meeting and for providing spare ties for the gentlemen. As the meeting coincided with the start of carnival, those not fast enough lost their own to some very cheerful ladies and their scissors (see the presentations page for pictures!).
- This year euspen is delighted to support the publication of a special edition of the well regarded Journal of Mechatronics focussing on thermal effects in mechatronic systems. Members are encouraged to submit papers by the deadline of 30th April. Call for papers.
- We are pleased to inform you that euspen's international competition for outstanding young engineers is now open for student applications. We look forward to welcoming the winners of the national heats in Delft. To find out more or to enter please visit: euspen Challenge.
- On behalf of Euramet, we would like to update you on the 2010 call of the European Metrology Research Programme addressing 'Metrology in Industry': Call scope, Call document. For clarity, whilst industry can participate in calls for topics and in projects, no research funding is available for non-NMIs. However, funding is available for industry personnel engaged in EMRP funded projects through researcher excellence and mobility grants. For further info >>>
- Finally, as you may be aware, vacancies may be advertised on the euspen website by corporate members. A number of positions are currently highlighted >>>
It is our pleasure to offer you, as euspen members, the above opportunities to develop new business relationships, share expertise and exploit your potential in unique and exciting projects. We are also delighted to welcome many new members to the society, including the companies below. Please follow the links to their websites to see the leading expertise they can offer.
It remains for me to send my very best regards to you all. I look forward to seeing you in Delft.
Dr Henny Spaan
